Mission Statement

Brentwood Community Chorus is a non-profit, non-sectarian, non-political public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private benefit of any person. The mission of the Brentwood Community Chorus is to enrich the cultural life of our community through high level choral performances presented by volunteer singers of different ages and diverse backgrounds.

Director - Susan Stuart

Susan received her BA in Piano Performance from California State University, Hayward. She has served on the California Music Educators Association Bay Section Board as Choral Representative and has been an adjudicator for large choral festivals and solo and ensemble festivals throughout the state and beyond for over 20 years. Susan has been guest conductor for numerous honor choirs, both middle and high school.

 

In 2011, Susan "graduated" from Liberty High School in Brentwood after 35 years as the choral director, where she conducted five choirs, barbershop quartets and choruses. In 1995, she was recognized as Teacher of the Year for the Liberty Union High School District. She was the Soroptimist Woman of Distinction recipient in 2004 and the California Music Educators Association Bay Section Choral Music Educator of the Year in 2005. She sang under Dr. William Dehning in the California Choral Company for 5 years. In 2008, Susan and her husband, Bruce, were honored with the Artists of the Year Award from the City of Brentwood.

 

Currently, Susan is the conductor of the Brentwood Community Chorus. The chorus has been invited to sing the Messiah in Carnegie Hall in November, 2018. She is also the music director for a local high school's musicals and the Brentwood Theater Company. She frequently subs for local choir directors (both church and school). 

 

In 2012, she sang in the Rome International Choral Festival with a church choir from Modesto. In June 2015, she sang in the Mozart Choral Festival in Salzburg, Austria.
